Men Made For More Podcast Episode 163- Championship Mental Diet
[00:00:00] Dave: Hey there mighty man. I'm your host, Dr. Dave Paczkowski founder of man-made for more coaching, our business helps husbands love up there. Their leadership and their legacy in marriage and in business. The purpose of this podcast is to bring together like-minded men that feel destined for big things in their life and provide you the resources and community that you need to lead yourself, your family and your business.
[00:00:27] If you've ever felt overwhelmed, frustrated, lost quite alone on your journey to a better and more purposeful life. You're in the right. You weren't designed to be average. So it's time to quit living that way today. I'm giving you permission to unlock your true potential and step into all that you were made for.
[00:00:45] What's up champions. Welcome to today's show. We are talking today about building a championship diet and not in the physical sense. We've had past podcasts on that. And, uh, we can talk all about that. Uh, on a separate [00:01:00] show, we all know the importance of eating right and feeding our bodies right when it comes to reach our physical goals.
[00:01:06] But we don't really give much thought to. Our mental diet or what are you feeding yourself mentally? And this is what we call our, our championship diet. That's going to apply to all areas of your life, because if you're not paying attention to what you're feeding your mind, then it's going to affect your performance is going to affect your confidence, your self worth, your abilities that you're putting out day in and day out when it comes to leading your family, leading your business and just becoming the man that you're capable of being.
[00:01:35] So it's important to. Have awareness around this, because I know as, as men, we can focus a lot on, on how we look and our strength and those things, which, which are great. We want to make sure that we're leveling up that, that physical pillar of our life. But we also want to make sure that we're addressing the mental side of it because the mental side is what drives everything, whether we realize it or not, these thoughts that we're [00:02:00] thinking throughout the day and whether we realize it or not, mostly, mostly subconscious.
[00:02:05] Cause the, the actions we're taking every day and cause the limiting beliefs we might have around things that, uh, that we're working towards and things that we keep getting stuck on. Those, those same ruts. We keep finding ourselves in those same thought patterns and limiting beliefs that we continue to find ourselves in, cannot get address until we address our mental diet and what we're putting in there.
[00:02:26] So I want to talk about four things, specifically four steps today, uh, that I've outlined to. Help you, uh, first identify and then also make changes to this diet to help you reach your next level, because there's, there's so much noise out there guys, when it comes to, when it comes to what the world is throwing at you, we, we turn on the news.
[00:02:47] We open up social media, we surf on the web and you don't have to go very far to have someone telling you the way that things need to be, or that the new thing you need to try to get your next level or all these subconscious. [00:03:00] Things in these tones that are coming in and that we're letting in, that are, are creating a new limiting beliefs are causing us to question they're causing us to live in fear.
[00:03:08] And until we identify those things and address those, if we keep paying attention to the noise, we're going to live a reactive life. And if you just take in, if you just take in and take in new information without really. Processing it without really identifying, is this what I want to be following? Is this the direction I want to be heading in?
[00:03:27] Then you're going to live a reactive life of just taking whatever's thrown at you. And then all of a sudden months will go by years, go by and you'll wonder why you're still stuck in the same thought patterns or the same small thinking mindset. And we want to break that. We want to break that right now and just, uh, believe that, uh, a growth mindset and abundance mindset is what's needed to get you to your next level.
[00:03:51] And no amount of just changing your actions is going to do that. If we don't first change our mind and change the thoughts that are coming in. And I want you guys to see your full potential. I want you [00:04:00] guys to see your full potential and your body. And your relationships and your business and your finances and all those areas.
[00:04:06] And really the best place to start is through addressing this mental diet, this championship diet that, uh, we want to talk about here today. So let's, uh, let's dive into these four steps to build your mental diet. And to, uh, make sure that this isn't something that's holding you back, that you're using this to really feel your success and just light your success on fire.
[00:04:29] So the number one step and really the most important out of all of them is to first take inventory. And with anything, if you're starting a new, physical diet, it's important to be aware of. Okay, what am I, what am I currently eating? What's what are my current pitfalls or things that I continue to struggle with?
[00:04:46] What are the little things that I'm letting in here and there, those little snacks or cheats, that cheat meals that are causing me to stumble in my success in my physical diet, we want to take the same intentionality and the same, bring the same [00:05:00] awareness into our mental diet. Right. And before you start making any changes before you start adding or subtracting, you have to first know where your starting point is.
[00:05:09] That first step is always awareness. So once you guys to start to make a list and it's going to be a physical list, it can be just a mental checklist of all the things that are influencing the way that you think. Cause the way that you, the way that you think right now is causing the way that you act, the actions you take and eventually causing who you're becoming and who you are.
[00:05:29] Right. And if you don't, if you, if you think back to old thought patterns, so thought patterns are going to determine the actions that you've taken today. And the actions that you take today are gonna determine who you are tomorrow. So it's important to know what things are influencing, the way that you think.
[00:05:44] And some things that you can, you can start with and start to start to raise awareness around would be things. Where the people you're spending your most, the most time with, I know we've many of us have heard that we are the average of the five people that we spend the most time with. And that's often [00:06:00] the case.
[00:06:00] So pay attention to who, who you spend the most time with those people that are getting you closer to where you want to be in those, in those goals and that ultimate vision you have for your life. Those people that are made. Pulling you away from that slowing you down or keeping you, keeping you further, uh, this, you know, this is often, uh, fortunately, or unfortunately your, your family, uh, this can be your work, uh, who you're spending time with at work.
[00:06:19] And what kind of work you're doing is that work that's uplifting and inspiring to you, or is that work that's, that's draining and causing you to. Uh, to have these, uh, these doubts and these, um, you know, these anxieties around, around going into work, it could be that the music and the podcasts, the books, the shows, all those things, things that you're consuming.
[00:06:38] And, uh, another big thing is just how much, how much time and energy are you spending on your phone or on those nonessential tasks, maybe watching those shows, watching, watching, Netflix, doing those things that maybe aren't moving you closer to where you want to be. And not to say that. Immediately get rid of any of these things.
[00:06:54] Cause some of these things are totally fine and in small doses, but if you find that you're using these things as an [00:07:00] escape or a way to, uh, kind of drown out the day where you get at the end of the day and you just need to unwind by, by being on your phone or watching a show, that's a, that's a caution flag guys.
[00:07:10] And that's something that you need to be aware of because that's, that means that there's something something's not in alignment with your day to day. And your, your week to week, year, the life you're living, if you feel like you have to escape to these things and to Ryan on, on these things, whether it's, uh, you know, something like social media or a show, or whether it's an actual substance food, alcohol, anything like that to help kind of mask that the feelings and the emotions you have.
[00:07:33] So you want to be aware of these things because all of these things and whether you realize it or not play a huge role in, in your mindset, your mood and your performance, how are you showing up as a, as a husband, as a leader, as a, as a friend, as a business. These things are going to directly impact that.
[00:07:50] Now that's a that's, you know, can, can be, uh, can be kind of obvious stuff. Obviously, if you're listening to a lot of, you know, good uplifting and inspiring things and surround yourself with good [00:08:00] people, then it's going to be better than the opposite being around negative people, always, always watching things that are not as, uh, not as inspiring.
[00:08:08] But there's a, there's another level of this that I want to touch on today. And this is one that, uh, I think I've, I've brushed over too much in the past. And I know other, other things I've read and other things I've been surrounded with can, can brush over this the second part of within taking inventory.
[00:08:23] And that's in addition to these things, you're currently letting into your mind, you guys also need to account for things in your past that you're still holding onto. And this one is, is much harder, especially for men to address as these run, these run much deeper than just the podcast. We're listening to how much time we're spending on social media.
[00:08:42] And this is, this can take a little bit of a little bit of soul searching, a little bit of counseling, a little bit of, of things that can help draw these things out, but this could be anything or anyone from your past that that's still has any kind of grip on your current mindsets. If there's people that continue to.
[00:08:58] No aggravates you, when you, when you think about [00:09:00] them or things that you're still holding onto old grudges or any of those things that you're holding on to maybe consciously, maybe subconsciously, uh, these things are going to absolutely impact your current thoughts and your current mindset. And, uh, this is something that I see a lot for, for guys that have, have gone the typical self-help journey and they've, they've removed the, you know, they've removed the things that are negative.
[00:09:20] They stopped watching maybe as much TV and they replaced it with, with motivational podcasts and books and those things. But if they're still finding themselves, if you find yourself there where you're still finding yourself limited, in some ways there's still this, this cat that you keep running into the ceiling that you keep bumping into, then this could be some of those subconscious things from your past that you're still still holding on.
[00:09:39] Could be even old limiting mindsets and beliefs from previous generations, your family around things like money. This was a real one. Lindsay and I, yeah. If I've had to work through and actively work through of limiting beliefs around, around money or around chasing success, those can be, you know, those can be just a few things that you could be holding onto from just the way that you were raised without even [00:10:00] realizing it.
[00:10:00] And still the things around maybe believing that having too much money is bad or chasing successes is something that. That isn't a, isn't a good thing to do. And this could also be just words that were spoken over you when you were younger things that, uh, teachers or parents or our friends had said that, uh, you didn't even realize at the time were, were words of death that were spoken over to you at a young age that you held onto.
[00:10:23] And especially in those impressionable years, when, when we're still at. Still children that, uh, that those things can, can run deep. And it could be things that said, you'll, you'll never amount to anything, or you can never possibly do that. Or why would you, who are you to think? You can, you can do that, those types of things, although they seem harmless and most people have said them, or weren't even directly trying to try to limit you, but those are things we can, we can hold on to whether we realize it or not.
[00:10:48] Those are things that we can just Harbor within, within our hearts, within our minds that can affect us. Then as we try and reach that next level. That little voice comes back up and says, uh, but remember [00:11:00] you're, you're not, you're not supposed to be doing this. You're not supposed to be making this kind of money.
[00:11:03] You're not supposed to go out and start that business. You're not supposed to leave this town and go pursue that dream. You have those things can kind of really. I really limit our mindsets and those things are often subconscious. So those are things to start to be aware of. Uh, a couple of other things would just be any other people that have wronged.
[00:11:20] You have, uh, you know, a grudge you're holding against things that you're holding onto that are causing a little bit of bitterness or anger inside of you is going to greatly affect your ability to live with peace and joy and passion. Openly pursuing the things that you want to today, if you're still holding onto those things of the past.
[00:11:37] So it's important to identify these things before moving on, because these are the most important. These are the root causes for your current thought patterns. And like we said, that the current thought patterns affect. The actions you're taking and the actions you're taking eventually affect who you're becoming and the kind of life you're living today.
[00:11:54] So be aware of those stories you're telling yourself, and these are, these really are the main [00:12:00] reasons of where you're at today. So until you can identify this and break these things, then that's going to continue to hold you. I like to lean on, on scripture for these things. Uh, as, as it's talked about in scripture, it says we demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
[00:12:19] We have to literally take these thoughts, captive these things that we may or may not be aware of. And any thought that comes in any new thing that comes in any new words, spoken. Into us and over us, we have to be aware of those things. And we have to take a captive and say, is this is this in alignment with truth?
[00:12:36] Is this in alignment with what God says about me and who I am and the limitless potential that I have inside of me and you guys all have that limitless potential. And if you don't feel that way, there's, there's some kind of belief or thoughts that are keeping you from doing that, that are keeping you playing small.
[00:12:52] And another one do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. One of my favorites in Romans 12, two another one that, [00:13:00] uh, there's the one I was talking about with so much noise out there in the world. So many people are telling you, well, this way is right.
[00:13:05] And this way is right. We can't just, we can't just accept those things. We have to. Be transformed by renewing our minds by taking those thoughts captive by making sure that we're taking inventory and then we're making the necessary steps to make the changes. So don't let the, don't let the things of this world cause the same limiting beliefs that are holding you back from achieving more of those same limiting beliefs.
[00:13:27] Are keeping you where you're at today and maybe that's, that's good, but don't sacrifice good for great. When you take those thoughts captive and allow our minds and therefore our actions and eventually our future to be transformed. So that's a little longer on the first point that the next few will be quicker, but I wanted to spend more time there because that's really the most important and really taking it to that deeper level of not just, okay, what are the things you're doing on a day-to-day basis, but what are those things from your past that might still be keeping you to where you're at today?
[00:13:57] So second step after taking inventory is to [00:14:00] eliminate the non-essential. So this is a, this is an important second step, and we can't confuse the second step with the third step at which the third step is replaced with the essential. A lot of people, once they've identified it, they just try and layer on, on good on top of the dysfunction that's already there.
[00:14:15] So maybe they'll just start by adding in a motivational podcast or listening. You're reading a, reading a motivational book and think that that alone will address it. But before we add any. We have to first eliminate, we have to first take away the things that are slowing us down. We have to not be driving with the parking brake on.
[00:14:32] We have to let off the parking brake before we can fully hit the gas forward. So once you've identified what those, what the state of your current diet is, it's time to start making choices and eliminate one thing at a time. I don't, I don't, uh, I'm not a proponent of, of all at once. That can be overwhelming for a lot of people, but picking one thing that you've identified of, Hey, yes, this is something that I'm holding onto.
[00:14:53] This is something. That isn't serving me. What's one change I can make that will start to [00:15:00] remove the non essential set. It will make more space, create more space for the essential thing. Cause until you eliminate those things that are holding you back, those, the weeds that are already running, running all rampant in your garden and Rooney ruining your garden, right?
[00:15:13] No amount of positive additions are going to take you to the next level. If you don't first get rid of those weeds. So that's the important step. Number two is picking one thing to either eliminate or at least reduce. Uh, I've talked about in the past that I'm not a fan of just eliminating people out of your life, but you might have to reduce or put boundaries on how much time you're spending.
[00:15:30] Right. If they're creating or exaggerating some of the beliefs you might have, then it might just be a matter of reducing those. And sometimes it might be a matter of actually stepping away from those things. If it's things like social media or shows or other things that you're maybe wasting time and energy with.
[00:15:46] So pay attention to those habits and pick one thing that you can eliminate. And then the third step, like I already mentioned is replace it with the essential. So once you've identified and eliminated the non-essential, now it's time to replace it with healthier choices for [00:16:00] your mind. We, uh, same thing, like when we cut out the, uh, when we cut out the sugar, we cut out the, you know, the processed foods, the fast food, maybe you still, you still need to make sure that you're fueling your body with the right things.
[00:16:11] You just have to make sure you're getting quality fruits and vegetables and high quality meats and those things too, to help make sure your body's running the way that it needs to same thing with your mind, once you take away. Then non-essential, there's going to be this, this space that if you don't proactively insert something essential in there, then something's going to fill that for you.
[00:16:29] And you're going to find another distraction if you don't proactively replace that with, uh, with something else. So that could be time spent, uh, God's word or other self-development type books. This could be spend more time around people that uplift you and inspire you and encourage you, build you up, or could it just be adding other motivational podcasts and inspiring podcasts similar to this one that you guys can listen to, that you guys can have on that you guys can take and learn and apply the things that you learning.
[00:16:54] So that's step number three. And the fourth thing is lean on accountability and community. [00:17:00] This one's huge. And once you've, once you've identified, what's holding you back. Once you've eliminated the non essential started to replace it with the essential. Those are our three big steps. You're never going to reach your full potential.
[00:17:12] If you don't surround yourself around like-minded men in community and have a standard of accountability that you're holding yourself to. I see so many men that make those first three changes and they'll see some level of success, but I see a lot of men fall off over a couple months and start to let the old things drift back in.
[00:17:29] Or maybe they don't quite. That level that they're really capable of. And this often, because they're lacking community and, and accountability. And if you guys don't have that, this is where you can really add fuel to the, to the flame and really light your success on fire. Because when you can surround yourself with other people who are on the same trajectory, have the same beliefs, the same, the same mindsets, or working towards those things.
[00:17:53] You know, championship style mindsets, good things start to happen and good things start to happen for your own life, for your [00:18:00] families, for your business. When you can get around people that are on that same journey. You can only make it so far on your own. We figured this out, uh, thankfully, uh, thankfully by the grace of God, early on in our life of, of how, uh, how limiting our success was when Lindsay and I tried to do it on our own.
[00:18:16] And once we started enlisting in other coaches and being a part of communities and, and being a part of people that were doing the same thing, did we see our progress really, uh, start to start to explode in terms of what was possible and. Directly helped our mindset. That's helped every single area of our life.
[00:18:32] So it's not enough to just make changes when you're motivated. When you're here listening to a podcast, uh, when you read a book, uh, it's about continuing to have a system in place, a proven system that allows you to continue to seek that growth, seek that accountability that keeps you moving towards the ultimate vision that you have for your life.
[00:18:48] And that I know is possible for your life. If you can follow all of these. And if you guys need help finding a community of like-minded men, uh, you know, we have one here at, at man-made for more that, uh, we would love to have you a [00:19:00] part of, if that sounds like something you're interested in. Uh, but wherever that community is, make sure it's, it's one that is, is lifting you up, is building you up, is showing you things that are, that you didn't even think were possible.
[00:19:13] You want those people to be able to. People that speak life into you. That can point out things that you didn't even believe were possible, that they can see those gifts in yourself. Those, those talents that you have that are gonna gonna make you reach that full potential and that ultimate vision for your life.
[00:19:28] Because as you continue to level up, it's only gonna positively impact your family, your community, your businesses, your employees, your coworkers, all those things areas. And that's how we can really start to make change as men. So guys, I appreciate you listening and day quick recap on this. We have. The four steps to building that championship diet, make sure to take inventory first, then eliminate the non-essential, replace it with the essential and then lean on accountability and community.
[00:19:54] So guys, I've, uh, this is a topic. I, I enjoy a lot something. I spent a lot of [00:20:00] time on.
